The Lunda Kingdom developed from the Luba Kingdom about 1600 AD. Once the Paramount Chief, Mwata Yamvo, became established, he sent out relatives to form satellite Lunda Kingdoms to the south and then to the east.
To the south there is Ishinde, Kanongesha and Musokantanda. Later to the east came Kazembe.
